Alopecia Areata Awareness Month 2022
September is Alopecia Awareness Month!
Every September, Alopecia Areata Awareness Month focuses on an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. The severity of alopecia areata ranges from small patches of hair loss to near-complete hair loss. More than 6.8 million people in the United States have or are diagnosed with Alopecia according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. It impacts people of all ages and both men and women. While more research is needed to determine the cause of alopecia, those who have it face self-awareness and image concerns.
Alopecia Awareness Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness of alopecia. It aims to connect and lift each other for those with the condition.

The Three Main Types of Alopecia:
Alopecia areata is the most common type of hair loss and involves round patches. It can also be seen in alopecia or Universalis, which are both forms of hair loss resulting in patchy baldness – whether on the scalp or across the entire body.
1. Alopecia Areata: This type of hair loss is often round and random, affecting the scalp.
2. Alopecia Totalis: Typically occurs in patches that can appear anywhere on the body. The affected area will then slowly grow smaller until it starts to grow back naturally.
3. Alopecia Universalis: Affects the entire immune system but can be more serious as it affects not only your hair follicles but also your nails, skin, and teeth.
