Sometimes, when tiredness hits there's the question 'is it okay to just sleep in my hair topper?'. Or maybe you want to sleep in your topper for another reason, like to look flawless even when sleeping. The answer is we don't recommend sleeping in your hair topper, as it may damage your topper and even reduce its lifespan. Your scalp also needs a break from wearing a topper. However, it can be done if you are cautious.
It must be noted that when you sleep in your hair topper, it brushes against your pillow and results in friction. This friction can cause split ends, tangling, and matting of the hair. Also, you have to wash and style your topper more frequently if you sleep in it, which can cause wear and tear on it. This is why it is best to limit sleeping your topper as much as possible.
•Make sure you sleep on silk or satin pillowcases. These silky materials are gentle on skin and hair and will help reduce friction.
•Style your topper before you go to bed if you can. If you have a long topper, you can braid it or put it in a loose ponytail to reduce friction.
•When you wake up, you may need to style your topper again. That is, you need to gently remove the twists and knots by brushing the hair topper carefully from the tips to the roots.
•Try and give your scalp a break the following day from wearing a topper. If this isn't possible, try using the halo wire instead of clips (only some toppers come with this wire), or move the clips on to a different section of hair on your head.
Hair toppers are not natural like our own hair, so regular use can decrease their lifespan. So, it's important to take good care of your topper. If you want to extend the longevity and performance of your topper, consider these tips:
•If you want to wear a hair topper while sleeping as well as in the day, consider alternating between two toppers. If you have a separate topper for sleeping, you don't have to worry about its look. Otherwise, you'll need to spend a lot of time styling, washing, and brushing this topper every morning.
•If you wear your topper everyday to sleep, it's best to wash and condition it once a week. This is because you naturally produce more oil and sweat in your sleep, so it needs to be washed more than a topper worn just in the day. Make sure to brush the hair prior to washing and handle the topper gently while washing and conditioning.
